ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Six Muskingum County organizations are teaming up to help get rid of unused prescriptions.
Next Saturday, April 30th the Muskingum County DEA, sheriff’s office, health department, Muskingum Behavioral Health, Genesis Healthcare System, and Northside Pharmacies are hosting a prescription drug drop off-drive thru.
“You basically just drive up,”said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz. “Obviously, if there’s cars in front you may have to wait a few seconds. But our volunteers come right out take everything. If you have stuff in the trunk, we’ll even have you pop the trunk. We’ll get in the trunk take the stuff out and it goes very quick. Very quickly.”
Sheriff Lutz said illicit substances will not be accepted. It’s a great way to keep prescriptions out of the wrong hands and to make it easier this year, they are adding a second drop off location.
“We actually have two different locations. Pick ‘N Save Risebecks joined in years after we started this. And they offer their location down on June Parkway. Now at Risbecks Pick ‘N Save they are just taking the pills themselves,” said Lutz.
The first location is at the health department. This program is free and anonymous. Personal information will be cut off the original containers and destroyed. For more information, you can call (740) 454-9741.
