ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A Zanesville family is now picking up the pieces after flames tore through their home Saturday afternoon.

Officials responded to a 911 call placed just after 3:30 p.m. When crews arrived at 1269 Oak Lane in Zanesville the house was fully engulfed with flames.

“The homeowner stated he was outside cutting grass at the time that the neighbor came,” said South Zanesville Fire Chief Russel Taylor. “And told him that he had smoke coming out of the side of his house. When he enter the house it was too much fire and smoke for him so, he had to get out and call 911. We are working to overhaul everything and try to salvage what we can for the homeowner, because everything’s a total loss. And everything they owned is inside the house.”

Officials are still investigating to determine what caused the fire. South Zanesville was assisted by Newton Fire Department, the City of Zanesville, and Community Ambulance.
