ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Thursday, The Maysville Local School District made their decision on who to replace Monte Bainter as superintendent. The five-person school board unanimously selected Ruth Zitnik to serve as the district’s superintendent.

Before accepting the job in Zanesville, Zitnik worked as the principal of the Freshman Academy at Canton McKinley High School. Zitnik beat out the other remaining candidate for the job, Dr. Bill Gathers, who was from the Mercer School District in Pennsylvania.

David Branch, who is the superintendent for the Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center, said that Zitnik agreed to a three-year contract that starts on Aug. 1. Branch also said Zitnick will begin working before Aug. 1 with former superintendent Monte Bainter to make the transition smooth. Bainter announced he was leaving in March to take a job as the superintendent for Logan-Hocking Schools.
