ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â The Emergency Management Agency is being proactive when it comes to emergency situations.
Muskingum County EMA Director Bo Keck is requesting matching funds from the commissioners for the hazardous mitigation grant.
“It’s a grant we receive from the federal government to write our hazardous mitigation plan,” said Keck. “We were granted a total of $24,900. With that we have to match $6,250. So I was asking the board of commissioners to approve us for going forward with the grant and the matching money, which they did approve.”
Keck said all counties must have a mitigation plan that’s approved by FEMA. Keck said ours is outdated, and without a current and up to date plan FEMA will not give federal money in the event of a natural disaster.
“We’ve used mitigation money for flood plain issues. We’ve used it in the Roseville area for flooding issues. We’ve them back during the derechosÂ when we have to get rid of debris and so forth. So yes, we’ve used those funds before and they do come in very handy. They save the city, county, townships, and so forth from having to shell out the money,” said Keck.
Keck said this new plan is current with FEMA’s guidelines.
