An annual fundraiser to feed the hungry is approaching, and there is an easy way you can get involved.
In coordination with ‘Operation Feed’ the local postal service will hold its 24th Annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive this Saturday, May 14th. Folks who wish to participate can leave non-perishable and unexpired food items and canned goods at their mailboxes to be picked up by postal workers on Saturday.
"What we have this Saturday May 14th is an absolutely wonderful opportunity to bring the portal service, whether it’s carriers, clerks mail handlers. All aspects of the postal service where we’re bringing them in touch with the general public and it give the public the opportunity to help those less fortunate," said Skip Larosa, Post Master for the Zanesville Post Office.
Larosa said last year they collected over 18,600 pounds of food and this year they plan to exceed that amount by 10 percent.
"The community, like I said in the beginning, the community has played so well in this and has helped us so much and I want to thank everyone in this community," said Larosa.
Larosa said, stick the ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ postal card on the bags or boxes of food you wish to donate, so the postal workers know the correct items to pick up.
