ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Friday a two-vehicle accident closed U.S. Route 40 on the Westside of Zanesville.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., Trooper Rich Lanning with the Zanesville Post of the Highway Patrol said a black Oldsmobile Alero and a red Ford Explorer were both traveling east on Route 40 near the I-70 ramp. The Alero tried to pass the Explorer in a no passing zone where the lanes converged. Trooper Lanning describes what happened next.
“[The Alero] hit the curb, bounced into the Ford Explorer,” said Trooper Lanning. “The Alero drove off the right side of the roadway struck the metal containers at Polk’s and flipped over several times. The red Ford Explorer drove off the left side of the roadway, through a guardrail, over an embankment, and into a ditch.”
Falls Township Fire Department was the first to respond to the site. Trooper Lanning could not speculate on the injuries of those involved in the crash but said that four people involved in the accident were transported to Genesis.
