ZANESVILLE, OH- For the second year in a row, Genesis HealthCare System receives the “Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality” Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll.

The American Heart Association Award recognizes Genesis’ commitment to quality stroke care. The award recognizes the hospitals commitment to providing the most appropriate stroke treatment.

“This recognizes our adherence to quality and achievement indicators in two or more consecutive years. The rationales for these indicators are designed to decrease the time between patient’s presentation to the hospital and being treated with TPA. TPA is a clot busting agent used to try to break up clots in the early treatment of stroke,” said Dr. Bryan Bjornstad, MD, Neurology & Sleep Medicine, Genesis HealthCare System.

Dr. Bjornstad said that early treatment would help patient’s health and recovering down the road.

“We want to remind people to try and contact 911 and seek medical attention immediately if they develop and sudden stroke systems. These symptoms are sudden paralysis or numbness on either side of the body, loss of vision, and loss of language function.”
