Members of the Muskingum County Chapter of the NAACP celebrates their Oldest Male Members.
Six male members from six different churches were honored at Union Baptist Church this weekend. President, Kenneth Burke said they wanted to do something special during Father’s Day weekend.
“It just lets us know to send out a message that the men and the women in our churches are not forgotten,” said Burke. “To see the oldest members, as the years go on they’re sat on the shelf and forgotten but, this is our way of saying thank you and god still love them.”
During the ceremony each honoree was presented with a special award followed by a powerful message by Pastor Ernest Dandridge.
“It just means a lot to me. It gives me a good feeling to not just for me but, for someone to know we still think of them and maybe someday someone will remember me. Oh yeah, I remember that old guy,” said Burke.
Organizers hope to have the event annually.
