ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Tuesday, Zanesville Sertoma held their annual award banquet at the Zanesville County Club. This year they honored Molly Tharp for her service.
Sertoma gives the ‘Service to Mankind Award’ each year, which honors those who have given back to the community. The group recently celebrated their 70th anniversary. President Ken Reigle said this is their most prestigious award.
“We ask the community for nominations of individuals in the community that have the same mission that we have,” said Reigle. “Then the committee evaluates those and one is selected every year and honored at this banquet with an award.”
Molly Tharp was this year’s winner and she said she volunteers for several local churches and organizations. Tharp said service to others has been a big part of her life ever since she was a child.
“I was totally amazed and so humbled,” said Tharp about receiving the award. “I was always taught to help others out. My daddy kind of instilled that into me. I’ve tired to live by the principal to treat others as I want to be treated.”
Tharp said that while she does not look for accolades, it is nice to be recognized for hard work.
