ZANESVILLE, Ohio – It’s hot and the heat is only expected to rise this weekend.

A heat advisory is in place for parts of our area this weekend. But, even with the oppressive heat wave there are some tips to keep you safe and cool during these brutal temperatures.

“Probably one of the best things is to avoid any outdoor activities. If you’re going to do so, make it very early in the morning or later in the evening when there is still a little bit of coolness in the air. Stay inside, go to the movies, mall or someplace that has air conditioning and is very cool. If you don’t have air conditioning at home, dress very lightly,” said Marlene Henderson, Executive Director, Red Cross.

Henderson suggest that you keep an eye on your neighbors and family members that may not have access to water.

“If you know of an elderly neighbor or someone who has health problems please check on them. Make sure they’re doing okay, make sure they have a fan or something that will help cool them off,” said Henderson.

Henderson said if you have outdoor pets make sure you provide them with lots of shade and water to keep them safe.
