ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Independence Day gives Americans the opportunity to celebrate our nations freedom as well as our wartime heroes.
Nearly 100 local veterans were celebrated and treated with a free barbecue lunch at the Zanesville Community Based Outpatient Clinic. Organizers said the lunch is their way of honoring folks who have fought battles in the Revolutionary War to present conflicts.
"Several counties are are included. We have the Coshocton Veterans Group who is here grilling the hamburgers and several of them are helping. There is a Blue Star Ladies Group who is helping and then the Daughters of the American Revolution from Muskingum County are also helping. We brought some food and trying to visit with some of the veterans and and make sure they’re having a nice 4th of July," said Mary Ann DeVolld.
Caribeth Legats said the Muskingum County chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution has play a role in providing food for the celebrate since it kicked off last year.
"It’s a way to get the men out and women and serve them something are they can get some toiletries or whatever gifts we have. It’s just a really nice day," said Legates.
Organizers said the most important thing we can do this weekend is thank our veterans.
