If Good Samaritan Hospital was part of your life, you can have some bricks from the landmark as it is being torn down. They will be available on August 23rd from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Genesis’s Director of Mission, Sister Maureen Anne Shepard says the hospital bricks hold a meaning and memory to the community beyond what materials the bricks were made of.
“They really didn’t talk about the building, they talked about the people and I think that’s what the brick is going to symbolize,” said Shepard. “All the people they came to know and cherish whether they were the patient or whether they were the caregiver.”
This giveaway was planned for the community by Genesis when the community started sharing their desire for a memento. The brick giveaway will take place in the parking lot at the corner of Hazel and Forest Avenues behind Good Samaritan Medical Center.
“This was something that we really had planned on for a while, but as demolition started occurring the more and more the request came and so we wanted to provide a way to provide the bricks in a safe way,” said Shepard.
