ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A picture of two unconscious parents and their son made national headlines last week.
While many see one victim in the picture, CEO of Muskingum Behavioral Health Steve Carrel says there at least three victims in the picture.
“The only reason why I say at least because mom and dad also have a mom and dad,” Carrel said. “And they may have brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles and many of those people are crying all along with them, saying please get help. Please get help.”
Carrel said many times people don’t choose to become addicted. If you suspect someone you know has been battling addiction, Carrel shares some advice.
“Let them experience the consequence of their behavior. Don’t give them money. Cash for a person with addiction is the worst thing. Secondly, with heroin, I think everybody should get a Naloxone kit. We run Naloxone clinics in Muskingum County every month. A lot of pharmacies are dispensing Naloxone,” Carrel said.
