Ohio Dominican president to retire next summer

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The president of Ohio Dominican University is retiring next summer.

ODU Board of Trustees Chairman Thomas Mueller says Peter Cimbolic (sim-BAH’-lik) informed trustees of his plan last year. A search is underway for his replacement.

During Cimbolic’s six-year tenure, the Roman Catholic college in Columbus established central Ohio’s first program to train physician’s assistants.

Cimbolic says the state Higher Education department has approved a proposed doctoral program in physical therapy. The school is seeking the support of accreditation organizations.

Cimbolic came under fire when a group of alumni asked the board to remove him last year due to a steep enrollment decline and budget deficits.

Mueller told The Columbus Dispatch he considers the conflict “something in the past” and Cimbolic deserves recognition for what he’s done.
