Wednesday November 16, 2016 the Muskingum County Zanesville City Joint Drug Unit, Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force, Zanesville Police Department Special Response Team, and Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team served two narcotics search warrants.

The Zanesville Police Department Special Response Team secured the first house.

“The first one was at 728 Indiana Street we secured three individuals there, detained them for the investigation, and one of them had an outstanding  warrant and as a result we had a small amount of U.S. Currency, some heroin, and a hand gun,” said Lutz. “We had two other individuals that were there and were interviewed then they were released.”

The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team secured the second house.

“1031 Muskingum Avenue upon securing it we took three people into custody there, one individual did have an arrest warrant for the city of Zanesville and Licking County,” said Lutz. “As a result of that investigation  we seized a pretty good amount of cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroine. We also located  resale packaging material and equipment at that house. We also seized about $5,000 in U.S. Currancy.”

Following Wednesday’s search warrants the Muskingum County Zanesville City Joint Drug Unit and Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force served two additional warrants on November 18, 2016 for a residence and local business.

Muskingum County Zanesville City Joint Drug Unit and Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force searched 1552 Wheeling Avenue and 901 Putnam Avenue. According to Lutz during these searches officials found two pounds of methamphetamine, one and a half pounds of cocaine, a firearm, and business assets.

Coury said Jonathan Q. Smith was arrested and is now being held in the Zanesville City Jail.

“Mister Smith was very cooperative and was no problem,” said Coury. “He did surrender with no force, basically we didn’t use the swat team to enter his business. We walked in on him and they served a search warrant on him. He was cooperative and after they completed their search warrants on Wheeling Ave and on Putnam Avenue they placed him under arrest and transported him to jail.”

According to Lutz the value of the methamphetamine and cocaine collected equaled up to $328,000, the firearm and the business assets were attained due to a possibility of them being purchased through drug money. The business in connection to the drug bust was High Energy Vinyl Prints.

Coury says Smith is currently being held on a 5 million dollar bond for 1 count of Possession of Drugs Methamphetamine with a Major Drug Offender Specification and 1 count of Possession of Drugs Cocaine with a Major Drug Offender Specification.

“This investigation continues and more arrests are eminent,” said Coury. “Right now any information pertaining to narcotics and or any other criminal activity anybody may have, please contact Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office, Muskingum County Zanesville City Joint Drug Unit, Zanesville Police Department ‘TIPS’ Line, or the Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task Force.”
