ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â Many Americans may not agree on their political views but there is one thing they can agree on when it comes to the election: that it has caused them stress.
This election has been considered to cause a substantial amount of stress for Americans compared to previous ones.
However, what some may not realize is the negative affect that stress can have on the body.
Mark Paxton, Exercise Associate at the Muskingum County Recreation Center said stress can have a lot of negative impact on the body.
“It affects the cognitive ability of the brain or just the way that you think, the way that you feel, your mood, [and] it can negatively impact your sleep,” said Paxton.
But Paxton said that exercise is a wonderful way to help alleviate a lot of that stress. He suggests anything that gets the heart rate elevated for an extended period of time.
“The American College of Sports Medicine recommends about 150 minutes minimum per week of physical activity, so that’s about two and a half hours, three to five days a week of physical activity,” said Paxton.
That can include cardio-vascular activity, weight training, or even walking outside according to Paxton.
