ZANESVILLE, Ohio – One of the year’s biggest traditions helped to kickoff the holiday season Sunday afternoon at Secrest Auditorium.
The Nutcracker has been a Christmas tradition for over 100 years. Dozens of actors ages three and up have been practicing the ballet since August.
Director Whitney Lewis has performed in the Nutcracker for ten years and has directed it for six years. She said it is always one of her favorite shows.
“I enjoy the whole production mainly because of the variety. Some of the scenes are more like musical theater. And some of them are more like the classical ballet. I like all the different scenes and all the variety they offer,†said Lewis.
They performed at 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Secrest. Lewis said the quality of this performance shows the quality of talent in Zanesville.
“It’s just really nice tradition for the kids. They enjoy it and the audience has been growing. It’s definitely a professional show for the audience. It’s going to be similar to what they see at BalletMet. We try to put on a professional production here in Zanesville,†said Whitney.
Lewis said they will now get ready for their dance recital in the spring and they are trying to add a musical in the summer.
