CLEVELAND, Ohio – After ranking as one of the worst statistical defense in 2016, the Cleveland Browns have made a change to their coaching staff.
Sunday they fired Ray Horton and replaced him as the team’s DC with 58-year-old Gregg Williams. Williams has coached in the NFL since 1990 and has spent the past three seasons on Jeff Fisher’s staff with the Rams. Williams also ran the Saints defense when they won the Super Bowl in 2009.
In 2016 the one-win Brown’s defense ranked worst in the AFC in points allowed per game (28.2) and rushing yards allowed per game (142.6). Horton was fired after just one year as the Browns defensive coordinator.
Williams served as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills from 2001-2003. He was also in charge of the Saints defense when they won the Super Bowl in 2009.
