Zanesville, Ohio- The Muskingum County Health Department released their annual report today.
The report was part of the Zanesville-Muskingum County Health District Advisory Council Meeting. Muskingum County Health Commissioner Corey Hamilton, discussed some of the activities of the Health Department outlined in the report.
“We do everything from one on one sort of care coordination for individuals, immunizations, sewage inspection, food service inspection. There’s just a depth and breath of what we do. So this annual report gives a glimpse into the activities of the Health Department over the years.”
The report also highlighted the growing concern with the increase of disease associated with heavy drug use.
“You know we hear a lot about the drug problem in our community, what we don’t hear so much about is the disease that is related to the drug problem I our community. We have a high rate of hepatitis c, we have a relatively high rate of HIV for a community our size.”
Hamilton noted the Health Department plans to establish prevention programs to help reduce the high rates.
