ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Commissioners received eight bids today for a Water Main Extension project.
The county is needing an 85 thousand foot water pipe line on route 555 along the river to Old River Road and clear out to Cannelville. According to Morgan Coast the president of Vaughn Coast and Vaughn the people who live in Cannelville have poor water and need the better water supply the county will provide with help.
“The county did get a good bit of funding for the project,” Coast said. “They got I believe about one million dollars from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They got funding from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Water Supply Revolving Loan Fund and they got some extra grants from the Community Development Block Grant Water and Sewer Funding. Which is good, it helped a lot.”
Coast said the county has been trying to get outsourced funding for Cannelville for years now. The county had an estimate of 3.6 million dollars and the bids provided today are below that budget. Next the County Commissioners need to discuss and choose which bid to accept.
“What we’ll do is we’ll take the bids back to the office and we’ll make sure they did all their addition and subtraction properly,” Coast said. “So we can make sure their bid is proper and once that is satisfied then we’ll make a recommendation on the award and the commissioners will have to approve that and then we’ll move forward with the notice preceding construction.”
Coast expects construction on the water main extension to start in two to three months and the project will take an estimated 270 days to finish.
