ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The 42 Annual Farmers Market will be officially starting this Saturday May 6, 2017.
The Farmers market originally started when a group of farmers who were a part of a flea market that took place under the Muskingum County Fair grandstand decided they wanted to sell their extra produce. Market Manager Betty Tolliver said the farmers worked with the Ohio University Extension Agency to set up their proposal.
“So they decided to form a farmers market down here and they thought the best place to have it would be at the fair grounds,” Tolliver said. “So they joined forces with their flea market down there and took it from there.”
The Zanesville Farmers Market will provide the community with more than just produce. Tolliver said Rambo will be present to check blood pressure, WIC Food and Nutrition Services for house hold needs, and the E.B.T. system snap dollars for produce and they’ll also start holding cooking presentations in the Tat’s structure.
“We’re trying to get them set up for at least once a month,” Tolliver said. “We’ll announce it and give different demonstrations on how to use exactly what’s in season at that point and that will be a lot of fun.”
The Zanesville Farmers Market is held at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds every Saturday between 9:00 A.M. and noon from the beginning of May until the end of October. For more information check out their Facebook page.
