ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A Local business, organization, and school are hosting this years Veterans Appreciation Weekend.
Terry’s Tavern is celebrating and honoring all veterans on Saturday June 10, 2017 starting with a free breakfast for all veterans from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Wayne Clark one of the coordinators for the Veteran’s Appreciation Foundation said the weekend events will start Friday June 9, 2017 at 6:00 P.M.
“We have this Veterans Appreciation Weekend that we’re just wanting to say thanks to veterans and thank God we have these veterans that have done so much for our country,” said Clark. “So we just want to appreciate them and so we’ll have this celebration starting with the Ohio Flags of Honor.”
Clark said The Ohio Flags of Honor Memorial travels around with names of deceased Ohio veterans from Afghanistan, Iraq and globally in the War on Terrorism. This years Flags of Honor will be switching locations to Zanesville High School and Principal Laura Tompkins said many of their students will be assisting.
“A lot of athletes get involved and a lot of students that are involved in extracurricular activities take part,” Tompkins said. “I think it’s wonderful that our students take pride in honoring our veterans and it’s a solemn occasion, but exciting because they are a part of the community as a whole.”
The Veterans Appreciation Weekend’s last event will be the golf outing at Green Valley Golf Course with the tee off starting at 9:00 A.M.
