ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Timber Run Grange is hosting their annual strawberry festival this weekend.
The event takes place Saturday June 10th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Timber Run Grange at 4065 West Pike. The event is a tradition that has been going on for 96 years.
“Back in the history books I read where it was 1921 was the very first strawberry festival and then they had an ice cream social 9 years later and they combined the two and now we have our ice cream social strawberry festival,” said Forest Mendenhall, Timber Run Grange executive committee member.
There will be homemade ice cream, pies and an array of food. Mendenhall says this event is how they give back to the community.
“It’s a group that gives to the community, we don’t like to take anything, we like to give, and for the young people coming up it gives a sense of history,” said Mendenhall. “It gives everyone in the community a sense of belonging and to get together and get out and meet people that you haven’t met before.”
The event is open to the public and is free, though donations are accepted.
