ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Zanesville Memorial Concert Band is back at Zane’s Landing Park after a year away.
The band has been unable to recently play next to the river due to poor weather conditions. Artistic Director Janine Schmelzer Bock said she’s excited the weather cooperated for the show, which is finally allowing them to play outside again.
“It’s been a year since we have been at the river,” said Bock. “Last Summer we weren’t able to get out to the river until this July.”
Bock says playing by the river puts a distinctive feel on the performance because of the history of music here in Zanesville.
“I can imagine what it was like a 100 years ago when this very thing happened,” said Bock. “They use to have concerts all the time, in the outdoors, at the parks. It’s a very long-standing tradition that we do.
The band is a few years away from its 100-year anniversary. Bock is asking for anyone who has any information or memorabilia relating to the band to contact ZMCBBoard@gmail.com. Turning in items early will allow everything to be documented for the 100-year celebration.
