NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Expectations are high for Muskingum football after coming off their best season since 2011.
The Muskies opened their fall camp on Monday as they get ready for the season opener on Sept. 2. Muskingum is still looking for who will start the year at quarterback. Senior Dilon Strine is the only non-freshaman quarterback on the roster, but he’s also never attempted a pass for Muskingum.
“We’re trying to find a quarterback right now. I think we have five talented freshman in there that are all kind of vying for that same position. I’m not sure that anyone has distinguished them self yet,” said 11th year head coach Al Logan.
The Muskies went 4-6 last season. At media day they were voted to finish ninth and eighth in the OAC by the coaches and media poll, respectively.
There are seven seniors listed on Muskingum roster. Logan says those seven have brought good senior leadership this year. However, he also likes what he’s seen from the younger guys.
“I think we’ve got a great group of kids. We’ve got some young kids that are trying to learn some stuff and be in the mix on both sides of the ball. A talented, talented freshman group and we’re excited about what we have with those guys,” said Logan.
Muskingum opens the season with Waynesburg at home on Sept. 2. The Muskies beat Waynesburg to open last season, after a Yellow Jacket field goal attempt hit the upright with a minute to play.
