NEW CONCORD, Ohio – After only three weeks of play Justin Heacock and his John Glenn Little Muskies stand alone as the only undefeated team in the Muskingum Valley League.
In a back-and-forth game Friday the Little Muskies took down Sheridan 30-26 to move to 3-0 on the season. JG fell behind 14-0 early but battled back. With a minute to play in the game the Little Muskies were trailing the Generals 26-23. Then Heacock threw a 18 yard pass and found Ben Larson in the back of the endzone for the go-a-head touchdown.
For his play Friday night, Heacock has been selected as WHIZ-TV’s Player of the Week for week three of the high school football season.
“We knew it would be a tough game and we weren’t playing very good at the start. We had to battle back and you saw what happened,” said Heacock.
The Little Muskie senior quarterback finished the day 24-38 for 334 yards and three touchdowns. It was John Glenn’s first win over Sheridan since 2012. The Little Muskies have tied their best start since 2005 when they won their first six games of the season.
On the season Heacock has thrown nine touchdowns and just two interceptions.
“We knew we were going to pass more this year then we have been. I just give credit to my linemen and to my wide receivers and running back for catching it,” said Heacock.
John Glenn has a tough test this Friday. They go on the road to play defending MVL co-champion Philo at Sam Hatfield Stadium.
