NEWTON TWP., Ohio- Newton Township is gearing up for Community Days set to kick off next weekend, but they’re still in need of vendors.
Community Days is back after a six year hiatus. Dora Maxwell says residents requested the Township to bring back the family friendly event. Community Days will feature lots of activities for people of all ages including a bouncy house, face painting, melon derby, and a new activity making its first appearance at the event.
“We’re having a duck race for the first time this year that will be at 11 o’clock….Top prize is $100 cash, second is $75 cash, third is $50 cash, and lame duck gets $10.”
The event will feature a flea market, where vendors can set up their tables for $15 for the whole weekend.
“We are open for anything. We’re trying to limit it to one Mary Kay or with a jewelry, stuff like that; but like the wood crafts or anything like that.”
The Newton Fire Department will also be firing up the pit to make their famous chicken for the barbecue dinners.
“The chicken dinner is $8. You get half a chicken, french fries, cole slaw, and a roll.”
Proceeds from the dinner benefit the Fire Department allowing them to purchase new equipment and uniforms.
The event will run Friday, September 22nd through Sunday, September 24th from 9 am to 9 pm. Sunday the event will end at 6 pm. Community Days is free to attend.
Other activities include: BINGO Friday at 7 pm, a military tribute at 5 pm on Saturday, and a judged car show on Sunday at 10:30 am.
