ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Two bus benches are expected to be built in Zanesville.
Robert Swanson and other members of Zanesville ‘All Shook Up’ Parkinson’s Group are trying to add benches to bus stops around Zanesville. Swanson originally pitched the idea to the County Commissioners office less than two weeks ago. The County Commissioners have agreed to require two benches be part of the $10,000 budget SEAT receives from the commissioners.
“They are going to put into the budget for SEAT, next year, to have them request two extra benches. My project to get benches, what I call a success,” said Swanson.
Swanson said the addition of benches at bus stops is necessary for the elderly and those unable to stay standing for long periods of times. He said he has had to wait for up to 45 minutes for the bus to arrive.
“It helps people that are disabled and the elderly people,” said Swanson. “You have to stand there because the bus routes are on an hourly bases. Every hour you come by and sometimes if you get there 20 or 30 minutes ahead of time and you have groceries or elderly people can’t stand or they have disabilities, they have a place to sit and rest.”
Swanson is still looking to add more benches. He wants every bus stop to eventually have a bench were the elderly or anyone with disabilities can sit while waiting for the bus.
