ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local non-profit holds a play at the Renner Theatre to raise money.
Eastside Community Ministry and The Renner Theatre are holding a play so the community can see what Eastside does for those in need.
“The main thing we want to do is to share exactly what [Eastside Community Ministries] does with people,” Administrative Assistant Melissa Staker said. “They know we have a food pantry and they know we have a clothing bank, but they may not understand all the other programs that we have or even exactly how many people we serve through our pantry or our clothing bank.”
Staker has been involved with the Renner Theatre for years and when the first play was being discussed Staker became the writer and director.
“When our Executive Director Jamie Trout started here, she was looking for new and fun ways to raise money for [Eastside Community Ministry],” Staker said. “Well I was a part of the Renner Theatre as well and [Trout] thought it would be really fun to put on a play.”
Staker explained that last year’s play was focused on what goes on every day at Eastside Community Ministry, but this year it focused on those they help on a daily basis.
“Just telling some of their stories in a sort of generic way,” Staker said. “We’re not divulging any names or anything like that. Our staff is all involved, but they’re portraying themselves and they’re just going to stand up and tell exactly what program they work with and what it does. Then we have some volunteers from the theater that are going to be our actors.”
The play is titled ‘A Day in the Life of a Neighbor in Need’. The performances are Friday October 13, 2017 and Saturday October 14, 2017 starting at 8:00 P.M.
Tickets are $10.00 and proceeds go towards Eastside Community Ministry and Renner Theatre programs. For more information contact Eastside Community Ministry at (740) 452-7519 or call The Renner Theatre at (740) 453-8481
