The Ohio Department of Commerce Thursday announced the locations of large medical marijuana growers and one of them is in Muskingum County. The state says Grow Ohio Pharmaceuticals LLC will be located in Newton Township and will be high-security indoor business, not an outdoor farm. Newton Township Trustee Bob Stephenson says the exact location “is a 10 acre site off US 22 in the former Columbia Cement site and 30 to 50 jobs will be created.” All of the facilities have less than a year to become operational and must get a certificate from the state before they can grow any medical marijuana. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says he really does not have an opinion on the issue other than “its the law and he will make sure all the protocol is followed by the operators”. The state says the other sites are located in Huron, Youngstown, Springfield, Mount Orab, Canton, Akron, Gibsonburg, Yellow Springs, Parma and East Lake. Ohio’s medical marijuana law passed last year, but it does not allow smoking. It goes into effect in September.
