ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Most head coaches making their debut would prefer an easy game to open up their career. That wasn’t the case for Maysville’s Dave Brown.

Brown took over the Maysville program this off season after Greg Mitts stepped down. His Panthers opened up the season at home on Tuesday night with Rosecrans. The extremely young Bishop team played their first game last week, falling at Shenandoah.

The Panthers jumped out to a 12 point lead at halftime. But Todd Rock’s Bishops refused to go away. Matt Applegate helped lead the way for BRHS, scoring 20 points and pulling in 12 rebounds.

The Bishops fought back to tie the game up with about a minute to play. However, turnovers plagued the Bishops. They turned the ball over 24 times to just 11 give aways from Maysville as the Panthers hung on to win 54-52.

Brandon Ullman of Maysville paced all scorers with 21 points.

Up next for the Bishops is their third straight road test as they go to Grove City Christian on Saturday. Maysville plays at West Muskingum on Friday.
