Tuesday Tax Day

As millions of Americans put off the inevitable, the deadline to file taxes is Tuesday, April 17. Tax Day is normally April 15 but has been extended this year because it fell on a Sunday. Remember, even if you file for an extension, the taxes you owe for 2017 will still remain due by Midnight April 17.

 

Voting

The Muskingum County Board of Elections announced that early voting for the May 8, primary election began Tuesday for voters who might be busy on election day or wish to avoid long lines.

6th Street Bridge

The 6th Street bridge will be closing for 20 days beginning Monday, April 16. Transportation Project Engineer Audrey Seals said the bridge’s concrete surface will get some patchwork repair and the steel grates over the canal will be replaced.

 

Lorena

Zanesville’s showcase, stern-wheeled riverboat, the Lorena is waiting on the weather to improve and river levels to recede before final repairs and inspection can be made.

Lorena Captain Bill Page said the normal schedule is set to begin on June 2, but he would like to get started by mid-May to allow school groups to ride before summer break.

Women of Achievement Recognition

The 30th Annual Women of Achievement banquet was held Wednesday, April 11, at the Ohio University-Zanesville/Zane State Campus Center.

Mary Perone was honored as the Lifetime Service Award winner for her work with the Fellowship of Christ’s Community, Christ’s Table, Hospice and her overall involvement in the community.

Seven other women were also honored at the banquet, with all proceeds from the event going toward providing scholarships for women who attend Zane State College or Ohio University Zanesville.

Bowl for Kids’ Sake

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Zanesville organization will be presenting Bowl for Kids’ Sake at the Sunrise Strikes this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, April 18, 19 and 20. Events will begin each evening at 5 p.m.

 

Virtual Reality

The John McIntire Library will present an opportunity for everyone to experience a new media technology called virtual reality from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Meeting Room B on Saturday, April 21.

David Booth from VR Now will be demonstrating the HTC Vive Headset that allows users to enjoy a room scale environment and walk around in a virtual world.
