ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A body was discovered Thursday afternoon in the Muskingum River.
Zanesville Police Chief Tony Coury said they have been investigating a missing persons case. He said the decision was made to put a boat in the water and they had been patrolling the river most of the day when the body of Nicholas Hayes was recovered.
“About an hour ago we recovered a person from the river and right now we’re under the assumption that this is the person that we’re looking for,” said Coury.
Coury said an autopsy will be conducted either this evening or tomorrow and that right now they are treating it as a possible drowning.
