Art As Sweet As Sugar

Art As Sweet As Sugar

The First Friday Art Walk is coming up, and this months Artist Colony Of Zanesville’s featured artists are as sweet as a ‘Box of Sugar’.

Joe and Lisa Murphy are more than just husband and wife, they are co-owners of “Box of Sugar” where they feature functional art.

“We make functional art, or art that you can use. Most of our art has a purpose, we have wine racks that you can put bottles of wine in, we do a lot of clothing, we do coat hangers, children’s toys, all things like that,” said Joe Murphy.

The Murphy’s draw inspiration from their surroundings using mediums like television and the internet to generate ideas. They also tend to use rustic materials and found objects to create new artwork.

“It’s something that you can have in your house use for something, and it also has a visual appeal. A key holder, a wine rack like I said before. It’s just something to add to your house, have some artistic styling, but still have some use for,” stated Joe.

You can view “Box Of Sugar” artwork on the first floor of the Masonic Temple during this Friday’s Art Walk from 6-8 p.m. And if you are unable to attend you can also purchase the functional art on their website BoxOfSugar.com
