With Cowboy hats and boots and horses, it looked like a scene out of an old western movie. Hopalong Cassidy fans from all over visited downtown Cambridge today for the 11th annual Hopalong Cassidy Festival. Hopalong Cassidy, played by William Boys, was a western tv star in the 1940s and 50s. He grew up in Cambridge.
Today's festivities included a parade and a look alike contest. Other activities included merchandise vendors, live entertainment from 8-yr.-old Cambridge resident, Adam Calvert and good old-fashioned games like bean bag throwing. The festival was expecting about 1000 visitors.
Visitors could also go to the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center for a collector's show, which showcased Hopalong Cassidy memorabilia and also attend an autograph session with stars like Grace Boyd, Hoppy's wife, Paul Picerni of the Untouchables and Dick Jones of Buffalo Bill Jr.
