Fatal Accident

A car accident that happened Saturday evening on State Route 146 near Shannon Valley Road ends in tragedy for 15-year old Jeff Freeman. The teenager from Bremen, Ohio was pronounced dead at the scene when the blue Mercury Tracer that he was riding in ran a stop sign at the intersection. The car driven by 18-year old Gary L. Thaxton, also of Bremen, failed to make the stop and was hit by an Oldsmobile traveling northbound on Bower Road. Once the cars collided, Freeman was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled over. The driver of the Oldsmobile, 58-year old Fredrick Fairchilds and his passenger 49-year old Catherine Huffman, both of Newark, were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Thaxton and 16-year old Kristine Hunter were treated for minor injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital. A fourth passenger 15-year old Brandy Thaxton was medflighted to Children’s Hospital in Columbus with serious physical injuries. Sgt. Roger Norris of the State Highway Patrol stated that there still has to be a damage analysis completed before the incident is turned over to County Prosecutor Mike Haddox.
