Wendy’s Restaurant and WHIZ are teaming up to make those first steps back to school in the fall a little better. It’s the 13th Annual “Lace up for Kids,” a program designed to make sure every student starts the school year off with a new pair of shoes. Parents who are interested in shoes for their children, need to fill out an application. Applications are available at the United Way, Salvation Army, Eastside Community Ministry, Department of Job and Family Services, Children Services are Early Start. Applications are due by August 20. New shoe donations can be dropped off at any Wendy’s location or WHIZ. The United Way is looking for volunteers to help distribute the shoes on August 24, at the Zanesville Civic League. Last year “Lace Up For Kids” served 825 children. Program organizers said they always need more donations of larger size shoes. They’re also taking monetary donations for the program.
