The failing economy is hitting hard at the Homestead. The Longaberger Company announced today, that 800 more jobs will be cut. This is in addition to 400 jobs cut back in early spring. The Director of Corporate Communications said their sales goals for the year were overly optimistic and have to align their sales with their production. Basket making operations at the Frazeysburg and Hartville locations are the areas experiencing cuts. The layoffs, will go into effect September 21st. The company said they cut budgets and expenses in order to try and avoid impacting employees. Longaberger said laid off employees will receive preferential placement if future jobs in the company become available. The Company is also continuing medical benefits for employees six weeks after the September 21st layoff date. The Longaberger Company employs about 8,000 people.
