Free Food will be given away to needy seniors in Muskingum County, and there is still time to sign up. Right now there are 50 openings in the new U.S. commodity food program. The free food packages consist of 32 to 35 pounds of food per month and are available to those who are 60 years or older and have an income of or lower than 130% of the poverty level. If the program goes over well, openings will be added so more people can take advantage of the program. The deadline to receive food this month is August 10th, and organizers are hoping to get a lot more people signed up. Applications will be taken at the Center for Seniors and at the Salvation Army.
