To raise a dairy cow means that you have a provider for life. Unlike most of the other animals at the fair, the heifers are “not” sold to market. For kids at the fair who raise animals as a financial venture this caused a problem. Twenty years ago the Muskingum County Blue Ribbon Fair started the “Bossy’s Milk Jug Auction” to help the kids get the funds they deserve. The auction counts on the generosity of the community to both donate and buy the items. For the kids who spend the year raising their prize dairy cow the auction is a big event. The auction has doubled participation in the dairy show. This year’s event raised over 7 thousand dollars. For more fair highlight’s tune into the Fair Show, seen on WHIZ-TV at 7 p.m. through August 18th.
