The 447th Army Reservists Military Police Unit of Zanesville continues today to prepare for deportation. Packing up supplies and keeping a positive attitude was the task of the day. Despite the circumstances, the local reservists seem to be in high spirits. Many of the reservists are excited about going and the morale level is high as well. It has been quite a process packing up supplies and getting the reservists and their families ready for Friday morning’s deportation. The advanced unit, which is a little over 100 reservists, will leave tomorrow morning to go to Fort Lenard Wood in Missouri. Many of them did not receive notification until the last minute, some only received a days notice. There has been tremendous support and assistance not only from the local reservists but also the volunteers from other units, as well as those who have re-enlisted. There are at least five or six women who have been called to duty in this area. Tomorrow there will be briefings at the Zanesville Memorial Reserve Center where reservist’s families and military dignitaries will be present to send the unit off.
