At a town meeting, the city of Cambridge came out in record numbers today to protest the possible closure of a state operated psychiatric hospital. The current state budget shortfall is causing the Ohio Department of Mental Health to consider closing as many as four state hopsitals, including the Appalachian Behavioral HelathCare Campus in Cambridge. Since these hospitals are the remaining saftey net for individuals with severe mental illnesses, patients, staff and city officials feel that this move can be very detremental. All parties involved hope that after arguments are heard, the Department of Mental Health will not close the facility. Since no decision has been made, representative of the department were not available for comment.
