It was a day long celebration to commemorate National Family Literacy Day and children, parents, teachers and local celebrities gathered at the John McIntire Library. The event began at 9:30 this morning with Superintendent of Zanesville City Schools, Michael Pockl, and Title I Director Tony Reese reading the Story “Is your mama a llama?” along with a very special guest. Area preschools, elementary schools, childcare centers, and head start programs within the community came out to participate. Local celebrity readers were on site until 3 pm to share favorite childhood stories. Also to celebrate National Literacy Day, a celebrity pottery auction is being held at 6 pm at the Welcome Center. Pottery designed by former first lady Barbara Bush, Senator John Glenn, New York Mets Jay Peyton, and OSU football coach Jim Tressel, just to name a few. Proceeds from the auction will go towards the Family Literacy and Technology Centers.
