A decision made final by the American Red Cross on Wednesday has the local Muskingum Valley chapter relieved. It was decided that all funds and contributions collected for those affected by September 11th, will go to the victim’s families. The focus was targeted on what America as well as the local community wanted, which was to send all the funds to those victims and their families in New York. The Liberty Fund has received 543 million dollars to meet the immediate and long-term needs of people affected by the tragedy. However there are now local needs that desperately need to be met with more donations. There were four fires last weekend that left 19 people homeless, and all the money to support those families, comes out of the chapter. With all the money going to the New York fund, a large dent has been put in the funding that takes place locally. The local chapter encourages anyone who would like to make a donation to do so by calling 452-2731 or dropping off a donation at the Red Cross office at 22 S. 7th Street.
