It’s a familiar sound that is heard every year around this time, and when you hear it you know the holiday season has finally arrived. That tiny bell is a beacon to people to open their hearts for the holidays and give to those less fortunate. The Salvation Army has been doing this for over 100 years and it is now a mainstay in the Salvation Army world as well as other countries. Their goal this year is $55,000 so hopefully all those nickels and dimes add up. Volunteers are out at many business locations starting today ringing their bells and collecting donations for the needy in the community. Not only do the contributions collected through the Red Kettle Campaign help those in need during the holidays but also throughout the rest of the year. Hundreds of volunteers turn out each year to assist the Salvation Army and if you would like to make a donation, the red kettles can be found outside many businesses around town from now until Christmas Eve.
