Two separate accidents on State Route 22 that occured only 50 feet apart claimed the life of a Philo woman and a Newark teenager. The first accident involved 67-year old Barbara Hamler of Philo who was traveling on Route 22 when 18-year old Ty Mcmannis of Newark crossed the median and hit her head on. Both Hamler and Mcmannis were pronounced dead at the scene by Muskingum County Coroner Dr. Howard Marsh. But before the Ohio State Highway Patrol could complete their assesment at the scene of that accident, a second accident occured several hours later and only a couple of yards away. A blue plymouth sundance and a red pickup truck were both heading east on 22. The blue plymouth sundance apparently slowed down to turn on an unamed street. The red dodge pickup truck struck the sundance in the rear sending it into a ditch. The driver of the blue plymouth sundance, 42-year old Nancy Swingle of Zanesville and her passenger 56-year old Joy Talbert of White Cottage were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and later released. 46-year old Blake Vanwey of South Zanesville, who was alone in his truck, was not injured. The cause of that accident is still under investigation.
