It was an unforgettable scene today in John Glenn High School’s gymnasium where over 35,000 food items were stacked from wall to wall. Thanks to the kind hearts of the students and their strong-willed determination to accumulate the most items, this has been the largest amount ever collected in the history of the food drive. The Salvation Army, month long food drive has been a tradition at John Glenn for many years, but just in the past few years it has become competitive in the hopes to get more students involved. This year the Senior Class alone collected over 25,000 items for the cause. The National Guard brought in big trucks and a U-Haul to help transport the contributions. The middle school also took part by contributing over 4,000 food items. The Salvation Army will be dividing the collection between Guernsey and Muskingum counties.
What was collected will help needy families in the area for Christmas as well as the food pantries for the remainder of the year.
