Winter is here and the Ohio Department Of Transportation is ready for it. The winter season brings snow and cold winds that can cause big problems for area drivers. Armed with a new procedure, O-DOT is well prepared to help take some of the dangers out of wintery state highways. Salt brine has been used to pre-treat state highways in other counties such as Coshocton and has many benefits over the traditional use of rock salt. Phil Newman, transportation administrator for O-DOT, says that by pre-treating the roads with the mixture, they will be able to cut down on the use of salt. Salt can sometimes bounce around on the roads and cause damage to your vehicle.
