One of the world’s most successful fast food franchises has lost one of its own. Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy’s Old-Fashioned Hamburgers, passed away by his wife’s side late last night at his home in Flordia.
Thomas became a household name and face here in our area not only because of his witty TV commercials, but also because of the impact he has made on the community through different endeavors. Those generous efforts will be continued on at his fast food chains. It is because of Dave Thomas that Wendy’s Bun Factory sites are located here, providing jobs for many local residents. Thomas felt close to the people of Muskingum County.
Despite his passing, Dave Thomas’s program Lace Up for Kids, a joint effort with WHIZ – TV, started here in Zanesville. His family has requested that contributions and donations be sent to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, and those donations can be forwarded to the local Wendy’s office on Adair Avenue, Children’s Hospital or the James Cancer Research Center.
