Three people who are considered possible subjects in the death of a Muskingum County Sheriff’s deputy have been arrested. The arrests occurred late last night near the Morgan, Noble and Muskingum county intersection lines. Sergeant Dan Marks of the Department says the three fled from a car whose license number the deputy was checking just before his death, the car was then spotted later in Morgan County by officials. The victim, 39-year-old Robert Tanner, Jr, of Zanesville was a eight year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department. Tanner was killed while working patrol duty at about six pm on Dunzweiler Drive near Kearns Drive in Falls Township. He radioed in a license plate number to the dispatcher’s office and said he was being flagged down. Dispatchers tried to contact him a few minutes later and he didn’t answer. Marks says that two people called the Sheriff’s Office to report that they had found Tanner’s body lying in the road near his vehicle. Tanner was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, he died shortly upon his arrival.
